Anyone caught dumping oil or chemicals in the Newland Waste Water System are subject to the following:
Penalties for dumping oil in North Carolina can be severe, including civil penalties of up to $5,000 per day for oil and hazardous waste and up to $25,000 per day for illegal discharges or stream standard violations. Criminal penalties can include imprisonment and fines, especially for hazardous waste violations, with possible jail time of up to 15 years for severe cases where human life or the environment is at risk.
