Director of Public Works:

  • Plans, organizes, and directs all functions and activities associated with the Public Works Department; determines and balances work          priorities based upon personnel, distribution, and project requirements to ensure the most efficient and economic utilization of                      available workforce and resources.
  • Determines departmental budget needs and prepares budget estimates for review by the Town Administrator. Confers with the Town          Council with respect to annual work program development and long-range facilities and projects. 
  • Meets with engineers and other contractors, state, and public agencies to discuss, manage, and supervise current and proposed public          works projects.
  • Coordinates and evaluates wastewater treatment and solid waste collection; ensures necessary permits are completed and                                 infrastructure is installed and maintained to Town standards.
  • Supervises staff in maintenance and construction activities in water and sewer, streets, and parks; participates in selection of staff;                trains and evaluates staff; makes recommendations on final hiring and dismissal to the Town Council.
  • Provides information to the Council, contractors, engineers, general public, and other entities associated with public works.
  • Enforces town codes regarding water/sewer ordinances, street policies, garbage, overgrown lots, etc.
  • Participates in work of water, sewer and streets maintenance and construction, as necessary.
  • Must possess a valid NC driver's license and ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • The successful applicant must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen, background investigation, and credit check.
